About the Program

Empowering students to become conservation leaders within their schools and local communities

Our programs and events enable students and teachers to network with other education providers, connect with local businesses, and learn from industry experts. Through our resources, activities, competitions and events, our EcoMarines Ambassadors have the skills, the knowledge and the confidence to influence their local communities to make positive environmental behaviour change.

How it Works

Short introduction into what this section is about...

1. Getting Started

Passionate secondary teachers are welcome to register their schools for our free Secondary School Program. As the EcoMarines Teacher, you will help to facilitate your school’s involvement and encourage students to take part, by organising meetings with Ambassadors and chaperoning students at events. You will also have access to our suite of online resources and a range of events to support you throughout the program.

Contact us to find out how to register, or for more information about our Secondary School Program.

2. Appoint EcoMarines Ambassadors

Each EcoMarines secondary school appoints student Ambassadors to become the environmental leaders of their schools. Students from any grades are encouraged to apply to become an Ambassador or the Ambassador position can be incorporated into the school’s existing leadership roles. Students who aren’t ambassadors are welcome to join the ‘Support Crew’ assisting the Ambassadors' activities and initiatives.

3. Workshop Meeting

Upon completing selection of Ambassadors, our EcoMarines team would be delighted to meet them! This is a great opportunity to discuss their environmental project ideas for the year ahead and get them inspired.

4. Online Resources

You and your Ambassadors will have access to our suite of online resources, with everything you might need to help your school succeed with their sustainability journey. Examples include:

  • Step-by-step project and competition guides

  • Posters, videos, flyers, templates etc.

  • Case studies of other school’s projects

  • Links to third party organisations‘ resources and offerings

5. Events

Throughout the school year, EcoMarines host networking and education events, such as:

  • Training Day event for Ambassadors to network, hear from industry experts and participate in environmental workshops hosted at a special environmental location

  • Community events for EcoMarines friends and family

  • End-of-year celebration event to highlight the amazing work that our Ambassadors and teachers have accomplished

6. Celebrate and Repeat

Our programs run throughout each school year....and then we do it all over again. Schools appoint new ambassadors each year which helps with long term behaviour change and projects in schools.

"When Cairns State High School began our Environmental Club, it took a long time for us to work through projects we were passionate about. Being a part of the EcoMarines Foundation has meant that we have support from EcoMarine's Program Coordinators and enormous opportunities to grow our program at Cairns High even further. EcoMarines provided students and teachers with opportunities to network and celebrate successes with other schools in the area.

Thanks to the EcoMarines Foundation for your hard work in Far North Queensland, extensive resources and huge enthusiasm to connect both primary and high schools in our region!"
