Albany Hills State School

The newly sworn 2025 EcoMarines Ambassadors at Albany Hills State School have pledged to forge ahead with their plans to save endangered animals and raise awareness on recycling.
Bonded by an intrinsic passion for koalas and birds, the young students have a full year of projects ahead. They want to spur their colleagues’ curiosity with debates about the environment, spanning climate change, endangered species, recycling, and composting.
“I have joined EcoMarines because I want to save the koalas from being extinct. I also want to pick up rubbish and save more animals from becoming extinct or endangered. We all should try to save all the animals, says Ambassador Noah, Year 5.
It is within the group of Ambassadors’ scope that the idea of establishing bush walks is used to learn how to identify plants and animals in nature. It all revolves around a bigger plan of planting up the school community with native plants and making it a sanctuary for local animals.
Successful examples
Chloe and Molly left their footprints as 2024 EcoMarines Ambassadors at Albany Hills State School.
“Last year, we went around the school making sure everyone had the right bins, and they all had labels so everyone knew what to put in them and what to not put in them,” says Chloe.
“We also did a speech and visited preps, and we did this toy market where people donated toys as we were saving up for a book about how to save and protect platypuses that we will put in the library,” Molly completes.
Both students now look forward to extending their learnings to the community and, maybe in the future, make their debut as environmental leaders.
“My brothers recycle bottles, and so they will go around the neighbourhood collecting bottles, and then they’ll take it to this place where they can then give them their bottles so that they can reuse them (Containers for Change). This happened after I joined EcoMarines and started talking about our projects at home,” states Chloe.
“When it comes to the environment, we are afraid of climate change. After my experience as an EcoMarines Ambassador, I now look through different ways. If I’m packing my lunch, I won’t use plastic bags anymore. I use stuff that I can reuse now.”
